Scholar Athlete: Jesse Jablonsky Mat Mlodzinski News10NBC Scholar Athlete: Jesse Jablonsky PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Jesse Jablonsky has been a highlight reel for Pittsford football this season. “I think last year it was kind of more catch the ball and kind of just get as many yards as you can, like, and I think this year, which was one thing coach told me to work on the offseason, is kind of making the first guy miss,” Jablonsky said. Pittsford Head Coach Steve Marriott praised Jablonsky’s knack for finding open space during plays. “Whether it’s how coverage moves, whether it’s deep coverage, underneath coverage, you know, and then throughout the season when a play breaks down, he’s so awesome at just finding space,” Marriott said. Jablonsky’s playing style has even drawn comparisons to one of his favorite NFL players. “My brother’s friend, they were watching the Bills game and his mom was like, she watched Khalil Shakir run like this, like, I don’t know, it was somewhere out, whatever. And she was like, wow, that looked like Jesse Jablonsky. And I was like, wow, that’s like a really great comparison. I never really thought about that,” Jablonsky said. Despite personal achievements, Jablonsky is focused on helping Pittsford win its first sectional title. “I don’t know what the statistic is on how many sectional finals you can lose before winning your first one, but I think we’ve gone to, what, 8 or 9, and we’ve lost every single one. Like, I want to be those guys one day, like, looking back at it, um, and just doing it with these guys, it’s so overwhelming,” Jablonsky said. Pittsford faces a tough challenge with Fairport up next, but Jablonsky’s performance has made him the News10NBC Scholar Athlete of the Week.
